B I O G R A P H Y
Kate Kimove has been bagpiping both recreationally and competitively for over 15 years. She started learning at the age of nine and began bagpiping competitively by the age of ten starting at the Grade 5 level. She has climbed through all of the amateur competitive rankings and is now in the Professional solo level. Kate is currently an active solo competitor around North America and Scotland.
Kate is also a member of the 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) Pipe Band who currently compete at the Grade 1 level in Scotland and in Canada. Kate has previously played in many Grade 2 and Grade 1 bands in the United States and in Canada including Stuart Highlanders Pipe Band, Oran Mor Pipe Band, Peel Regional Police Pipe Band, 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Pipe Band (RCAF), Penetangore Pipe Band and Niagara Regional Police Pipe Band. With her bands, Kate has achieved many titles including winners of the Canadian Championship, U.S. Open Championship, North American Championship and has placed as high as third in the World Championship. Aside competition band experience, Kaitlin is also a serving member of the Nova Scotia Highlanders in Halifax, NS.
In addition to her solo and band involvements in the bagpipe community, Kate has instructed the Dofasco Pipe Band in Hamilton, Ontario since 2008. Kate was the Pipe Major of the Grade 5 Dofasco Pipe Band at only sixteen years old and led them to be crowned United States Champions at the Alma Highland Festival.
In Autumn of 2015, Kate had the honour of being selected as a piper of the National Sentry Program at the Canadian National War Memorial in Ottawa, ON. She served as the piper for the lament on October 22 2015 at the one year memorial service for Corporal Nathan Cirillo of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise's).
